Monday marked the start of my 21-day cleanse. In addition to my regular paleo diet, which I am tightening up for the next three weeks, I have removed eggs, nuts, nightshades, and caffeine.
Eating at home has not been too much of a challenge. The biggest change has been replacing my morning eggs with meat, and remembering what falls into the nightshades category (eggplant, tomatoes, tomatillos, all sweet and hot peppers, plus white potatoes and goji berries, which I don’t eat anyway). I’ve also eliminated the occasional squares of dark chocolate I sometimes enjoy after dinner.
I’ve eaten out once. Fortunately we have a local restaurant that offers grassfed burgers and was happy to add grilled broccoli and onions on the side. And as my dinner companions enjoyed their wine and martinis, I enjoyed my ice water (ha!). Oh, well. I remember a while back when I did a sugar detox, wine was what I missed the most. I know it’s more of a social thing…but I do enjoy relaxing with a nice glass of wine at the end of a long day.
I’ve already lost close to 3 pounds of vacation weight. I know I’m not supposed to live by the scale, but it is usually a fair measurement of progress. My belly seems to be less bloated. I just had coffee (iced herbal tea, in my case) with some girlfriends who said they thought my face had a nice, healthy glow. My skin is sensitive and it definitely reflects my diet! I have been a little tired, but it’s been a pretty busy week. With the kids back to school and activities, I’ve had more late nights than usual, so that could be the cause.
But lets get to the food. As promised, here are the dinners we’ve eaten this week. They are all delicious and not one of them will make you feel like you’re depriving yourself of anything. Because this cleanse is similar to an elimination diet, each of these recipes is Autoimmune Protocol friendly. I’ve even created a new category in the Recipes section to make them easier to find.
I hope you enjoy this week’s meal plan. I will post the shopping list tomorrow.
